Viking CCS has the potential to meet one third of the UK Government’s target to capture and store up to 30 million tonnes of CO2 a year by 2030.

On Tuesday, ExxonMobil hosted its Low Carbon Solutions Spotlight, to explain how the company is “growing its Low Carbon Solutions business, to help accelerate progress toward reaching society’s net-zero goals.”

Under the terms of the agreement, ExxonMobil will transport and permanently store up to 2.2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide each year from Linde’s hydrogen production facility, equivalent to the emissions from nearly half a million cars per year.

As a result, INPEX amended the revised POD to include plans to neutralize all carbon dioxide emitted from natural gas production at the Abadi Gas Field through the introduction of CCS.

CO2 transportation and injection systems are the critical conduits that move captured CO2 from their sources to permanent underground storage locations. These systems will vary in size and complexity, but most will include some form of CO2 analysis, treatment, compression, and monitoring. During injection operations, fluctuations in upstream capture composition and volume will happen in parallel with downstream changes to store behavior. To actively manage this end-to-end variability, the transportation and injection system needs an integrated, automated control system that links upstream process control equipment with downhole instrumentation. In this webinar, TechnipFMC and Halliburton will provide an overview of their integrated CO2 transportation and injection solutions and explain how client value can be created through system integration.

The vow comes as competition in the race for clean technology heats up after President Joe Biden’s $370 billion climate bill, which raised tax credits for capturing carbon dioxide.

The project could unlock up to $7.53 billion of investment across the full CO2 capture, transport and storage value chain from 2025 to 2035.

Hunt said the UK’s investment in CCS would go toward projects that aim to store 20 million to 30 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually by 2030, equal to the emissions of 10 million to 15 million cars.

During a presentation titled Dual challenge: Accelerating energy transition while ensuring energy security, Baker Hughes Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Simonelli, PETRONAS President and CEO Tengku Muhammad Taufik, Linde CEO Sanjiv Lamba and S&P Global Senior V.P. Atul Arya discussed the major problem surrounding the uncertainty of the pace of technological development/deployment and the time required to reach scale.

The two compressor packages will enable the plant to capture up to 500,000 metric tons of CO2 per year when fully operational.

The initiatives include potential collaboration in green/blue hydrogen and fuel ammonia development, carbon capture and storage, as well as greenhouse gas emissions management.

Combined with the previously announced approximately 40,000 acres offshore Beaumont and Port Arthur, Texas, the expanded Bayou Bend carbon capture project now encompasses nearly 140,000 acres of pore space for permanent CO2 sequestration.
